Reading is an essential skill that most people learn at an early age. However, not everyone enjoys reading, and many struggle to make it a part of their daily routine. In a recent episode of the KAJ Masterclass Live, Dr. Danny Brassell, author, speaker, and coach, shared his insights on the importance of reading and how it can help you lead and succeed in business.
Dr. Brassell started by sharing his own experience with reading. As a child, he hated reading and found it to be a chore. It wasn't until he became a teacher in South Central Los Angeles that he realized the importance of reading and how it can impact the lives of his students. He also realized that many of his students didn't have the same access to reading materials and resources that he had growing up.
This led Dr. Brassell to become an advocate for reading and a leading reading ambassador in America. His goal is to show people, especially those who grew up hating reading, how to make it a part of their daily routine and develop a love for it.
For Dr. Brassell, reading is not just about gaining knowledge but also about exploring the world and learning from different perspectives. He believes that books are like passports to the world, allowing readers to travel to different places and experience different cultures without ever leaving their homes.
In terms of leadership, Dr. Brassell has found that effective leaders are often avid readers. Whether in the military, government, business, athletics, or entertainment, successful leaders tend to have one thing in common – they are constantly reading and learning.
But it's not just about reading for information. Dr. Brassell pointed out that even President Kennedy was known to enjoy reading spy novels for entertainment. And sometimes, reading for entertainment can even lead to unexpected opportunities, as was the case with the James Bond franchise.
So how can you make reading a part of your daily routine? Dr. Brassell suggests finding books that match your interests and building a reading program around them. He also emphasized that it's not necessarily about what you read but how much you read. Even reading a few pages a day can make a difference in developing a reading habit.
In conclusion, reading is an essential skill that can help you lead and succeed in business. It's not just about gaining knowledge but also about exploring the world, learning from different perspectives, and developing a love for reading. And as Dr. Brassell has shown, even those who grew up hating reading can learn to love it and make it a part of their daily routine
